Addressing the physical and imaginative confines of reality, the project reframes the eye’s capacity to compensate the limitations of the body in physical space. A semi-real/surreal virtual experience is linked to a partial haptic experience to extend our mind beyond what is physically within reach.
Using the everyday handrail as a spatial guide, its architectural afforances are redefined. The handrail expands, contracts, multiplies, coils, supports and covers, breaking free from its dependence on ‘the wall.’ Expected to conform to strict conditions and regulations to qualify a pragmatic function, the handrail defines a new visual-spatal experience that rests on a projected reality.
